A Thanksgiving Menu

An American family in Terre Haute invited us over to spend Thanksgiving!

The hosts introduced us to the ritual of carving the turkey… a male’s task. The turkey had been in the oven since 10 am, now it was 5pm... time to start the ritual!

We really had a great time and ate delicious homemade food. Here’s the menu:

Appetizers

Artichoke Hearts
Celery sticks
Grape tomatoes
Shrimps and Cocktail sauce

Main Course

Big Roast Turkey
Stuffing (stuffed and unstuffed)*
Green Bean Casserole
Mashed Potatoes
Gravy (ideal to spread over the trukey piece)
Broccoli Casserole
Rolls (Potato / white) = pancitos. Sí, de papa o de trigo
Sweet Potato Casserole
*stuffed stuffing is the stuffing that was cooked inside the turkey in the oven. Unstuffed stuffing is stuffing removed from the turkey and mixed with same ingredients but cooked separately, i.e., it does not absorbe the juices released by the turkey throughout cooking time.

English Muffin con...

Una vez, en un barcito, pedí un English Muffin con mucho entusiasmo... y me encontré con una especie de pan -tortita mendozina, figaza, árabe... indefinido, pero NADA que ver con un Muffin -de los nuestros! Nuestros "muffins" acá se llaman "CUPCAKES", pero todavía no los probé. Aproveché el pancito para probar estos dulces que se distinguen por (en orden alfabético):
Jam: dulce con semillas
Jelly: dulce sin semillas y más transparente
Marmalade: dulce de naranja.

Can you read? Roma tomatoes and Slicing tomatoes on top, Grape tomatoes (we call them "tomatitos cherry" in Argentina), and Cherry tomatoes at the bottom. These latter are more roundish than the grape tomatoes, like perfect mini slicing tomatoes. Can you identify the tomatoes on top as we call them in Argentina?

Sheer

What does "sheer" mean? The word appears 4 times in teh picture. Referring to a 230-page project, in context an American would say/write: "...your sheer length of pages alone tells me that you put a lot of effort into this".

Oh what did my mind hear?! Oh! a 32-second speech. I´m glad my listening skills are improving! My husband laughs at all the jokes but I keep asking him "what did he say?" with the most beautifully trained English intonation ;)
The speech you have to prepare to deliver in the US when you attend an interview for a job: What do you think you must include? Have you ever tried to say your most relevant info accurately in 32 seconds!?
Have a go! It should be fun... until the time comes!
